It’s common knowledge, at
least today to some extent, that Jeep engineers love to delight their customers
with “Easter eggs”. This has nothing to do with the Easter season which Christians
celebrate all over the world. Rather, these Easter eggs refer to the design cues
left behind for their customers to enjoy.
I noticed the little lizard moulded
on the plastic frame just below the front windscreen of the new Jeep Compass. This
was more than a month back when I there in Goa to test drive the new vehicle through
the thick jungles on a rain soaked day. While tossing around the vehicle on the
mud soaked terrain, I hardly got a time to explore the Easter eggs hidden in
the car.
The Jeep Compass was again
with me, this time in Delhi. I put to test the ability of my co-workers to
observe things around and asked them to spot these “Easter eggs” in the car in
a flat time of five minutes.
Off they went, scanning the
vehicle with their keen eyes, the nooks and crevices, under the floor carpet,
under the bonnet, in the boot area, in the cabin area, around the dash, in fact,
in every possible space they could set their eyes on. Five
minutes later they discovered a whole lot of “Easter eggs” tucked away on
plastic portions of the vehicle, on the glass area, etc. Almost a dozen were
found.
These Easter eggs included images
of Willys jeep grille, a Loch Ness monster, a lizard, etc. Jeep has done a similar thing
with their Wrangler and Renegade models. Other car companies too have left
behind design cues, much to the delight of their customers.
After having enjoyed the brief
period looking out for Easter eggs, it was time to drive the new 4 wheel drive Jeep
Compass through some off road terrains. Mind you, that was also fun!
