Even though Karthik Tharani Singh had won Race 1 of Round 2 of the JK Tyre VW Polo R Cup 2014, the Race 2 on July 13, 2014 in Coimbatore was won by Bonnie Thomas. The latter registered his second victory of the season. Starting second on the grid, he maintained the first position from the first corner itself till the end. Bonnie was followed by Karminder Pal Singh and Yatin Magu respectively.
The monsoon rains hit the circuit half an hour before the race which promoted the drivers to opt for wet tyres. In the wet tracks, driving became difficult for all the drivers.
Karminder Pal Singh started in the sixth position but drove his way up to the second position by lap five. He held on to this position till the end of the race. Yatin who started in the fifth position climbed up to number two at one point but the slipped to the third position which he retained till the end. Yatin faced strong competition from Anshul Manoj Shah, Utsav Shah and Lee Keshav Gupta as all four of them fought neck to neck till the very end of the race
Bonnie Thomas admitted that the condition were challenging at the circuit and he really did not know how the tyres would react. “Volkswagen has put together a fantastic race car which is pure fun to compete in,” he said.
Sirish Vissa, head of Volkswagen Motorsport noted that the start of the race was difficult for the drivers as they did not have prior experience with such tricky conditions. Round 3 of the race will now be held at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida from Oct 3 to Oct 5, 2014, followed by Round 4 from November 28 to 30, 2014 at the same venue.
