As
the world celebrated the 54th birthday of one of the best Formula One drivers
of the world, Ayrton Senna, on March 21, 2014, Google decided to pay
tribute to the Brazilian driver. The world’s best and most popular search
engine Google designed a doodle for the Brazilian driver Senna to commemorate
his legacy and displayed it on its webpage for two days on March 20 and 21,
2014.
But
alas, the excitement was short lived as people realised that it was only
showcased in few select countries like Brazil, Turkey, Canada, Mexico, etc. Google
definitely had very good intentions, but unfortunately, it was poorly executed
by the online search engine giant.
Incidentally,
May 1, 2014 also marks the 20th death anniversary of arguable one of the
greatest driver the world has ever seen. When the world was notified that for
this special day, Google had designed a doodle for Ayrton Senna to commemorate
his legacy and wanted to display it for two days on the March 20 and 21, 2014,
the excitement was palpable. One wonders why the doodle wasn't visible worldwide,
especially in a country like India where F1 races have become popular among
millions of youth. The spirit of the Senna, a person who gave so much to the world,
deserved better, much better.
Ayrton
Senna was a Brazilian racing driver who won three Formula One world
championships. He was killed in an accident in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Various
motor sports polls have voted Senna as one of the greatest Formula One drivers
of all times.
And
as for those who do not know what a doodle is, it’s just a simple drawing that
can have a concrete meaning or may just be abstract shapes. Popular kinds of
doodles include cartoons of celebrities, friends, comic characters, shapes,
patterns, etc.
