The rain swept, incident filled Formula1 race in the beautiful and luxurious principality of Moanco saw Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes win and a magnificent podium finish for Sergio Perez of Force India who came in third. Despite a brilliant attempt by Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull racing who was at the pole in qualifying could only come second.
It was a lucky day for Force India as its other driver Nico Hulkenberg came in sixth and in the vital points grade. Sebastian Vettel driving for Ferrari comes in fourth. Fifth to reach was Fernando Alonso of McLaren. Nico Rosberg had to be content with the seventh position. The rest of the first ten positions were made up by Carols Sainz of Toro Ross who came in 8th, Jenson Button of McLaren who came in 9th and Felipe Massa of Williams who came in tenth.
It was a wet – dry- wet day for the racers as several incidents marred the race one way or the other. The Monaco F1 Grand Prix got off to a bad weather start in Monte Carlo. Everybody started on wet tyres. It was here the Ricciardo had sealed his first F1 pole position for Red Bull Racing. The winner of the previous F1 race was Max Verstappen, his teammate but in the qualifying he had crashed heavily into the swimming pool after clipping the barrier at Turn 15. Since the car was damaged so badly, the team was forced to make up a new car from him- a move which required him to start the race from the pit lane. Also starting the race from the pits was Felipe Nasr whose Ferrari engine malfunctioned in qualifying.
As for the incidents, there were plenty.
