Tata Motors announced the opening of the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship
– Season 2 on January 20, 2015. The championship will be taking place at the
Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida on March 15, 2015. The T1 Prima
Truck Racing Championship features 12 Tata Prima trucks. The Prima trucks will
be driven by international drivers representing six teams -- Team Castrol
Vecton, Team Cummins, Team Tata Technologies Motorsports, Team Dealer Warriors,
Team Dealers Daredevils and Team Allied Partners.
The T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship is India’s first truck racing
championship, which concluded in grand style last year when Stuart Oliver won
the debut championship in a final race that lasted 45 minutes. The Championship
proved to be a treat for motorsport enthusiasts as they witnessed the powerful
Tata Prima truck cornering and competing at high speeds. The debut season saw
more than 20,000 spectators and fans flocking to the stands as they cheered on
the speeding Prima trucks. Team Castrol Vecton won the first position and was
followed by Team Cummins and Team Tata Technologies Motorsports in the final
points’ standings.
Season 2 of the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship holds more
excitement in store for fans as the Tata Prima race truck now boasts a 10%
increase in speed (up to 130kmph), 10% increase in acceleration and 10% weight
reduction, along with a new aerodynamic design. Tata Motors has also introduced
a new program to strategically select and train drivers for T1’s future. The
main sponsors for the event are Cummins, WABCO, JK Tyres, Castrol and Tata
Technologies while Setco Automotive is one of the sponsors for Team Allied
Partners.
Ravi Pisharody, Executive Director, Commercial Vehicle Business
Unit, Tata Motors, said, “The first edition of the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship
produced some exciting races. On announcing the initiative last year we added
an exciting new dimension of truck racing to one of the largest trucking
markets in the world. As we enter season two of the championship, it is in our
continuous endeavor to remain the most preferred trucking brand and I wish to
thank our sponsors, team of engineers, consultants, organisers, volunteers and,
certainly, spectators for creating a big sporting holiday with an unforgettable
atmosphere.”
Tata’s Prima 4038.S will compete in the T1 Prima Truck Racing
Championship 2015. The Prima 4038.S has an engine which produces 370bhp @ 2100rpm
and has an increased top speed of 130kmph over last years’ 110kmph. In an
endeavor to make these Prima trucks race ready, key modifications have been
made to meet safety and performance guidelines as per the British Truck Racing
Association. Some of the changes which have been made are to the fuel tank,
brake cooling system, propeller shaft guards, racing seats and safety belts,
exhaust, steering wheel among others. The Prima trucks have undergone multiple
quality checks, with major testing being undertaken at the BIC and Tata Motors
Jamshedpur’s world-class testing facility, for high speed run and control.
The T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship 2015 has been organised by
MMSC (Madras Motor Sports Club) and will be conducted by FIA & FMSCI. The
Buddh International F1 Circuit has been acclaimed as the best race circuit in
India and will now host T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship once again. On the
Race day, two races would be taking place -- the first one would be a qualifier
race which will be followed by the main race. The drivers who have been chosen
for the T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship have proven expertise in the field
of Truck Racing from the British Truck Racing championship and the European
Truck Racing championship.
