Devendra Thakur from Hero Action Team has won the gruelling cyclothon race at the 2nd Decathlon Sports Carnival in Mohali in North India by covering the 36km race in less than 50 minutes. His teammate Shiven Sharma finished a close second in the same event and Sanchit Sharma finished fourth to complete the domination of Hero Action Team at the event on December 29, 2014.
The Hero Action Team is India’s first professionally managed mountain biking team.
The Hero Action Team comprised of Ankush Arya, Devendra Thakur, Gurman Reen, Sanchit Sood and Shiven Sharma. The entire team participated in the individual Cyclothon event which was organised as part of the three-day Decathlon Sports Carnival. Hero Action Team is sponsored by Hero Cycles which is one of the world’s largest bicycle manufacturers, and is managed by HASTPA (Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association) in a joint effort to promote mountain biking in India.

He also stated that this victory has added another feather in their cap and that they really appreciate all the efforts which the team was putting into their training. More than 32 riders from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh participated in the Cyclothon. Battling their way through the freezing cold, cyclists covered highways and tricky routes within Mohali. Ashish Sood, manager of the Hero Action Team said that they were very excited with the win and by grabbing three out of the four top spots has given their confidence an extra boost. The Hero Action Team uses UT bikes to compete in all cycling events.
