Cougar Motorsport, India’s pioneering luxury self-drive experiences provider has announced the 9th edition of The Himalayan Dash. This premium luxury driving expedition, which usually witnesses participation from Senior Executives, Business Owners and other owners of premium cars and SUVs who are driving enthusiasts, will take the participants through the beautiful landscapes of Spiti and Ladakh. The expedition will be held from August 29 to September 9, 2018 and registrations are open for a maximum of 10 vehicles.
The luxurious Trans-Himalayan self-driving expedition will be covering 3,000 km across 5 states, with the route covering Shimla, Sangla, Kalpa, Kaza, Jispa, Sarchu, Leh, Pangong Tso and Hundar. The convoy will be led by Cougar Motorsport’s Founder Ashish Gupta. An ex-banker and ardent motorist, Ashish is the only certified Land Rover Lead Instructor in India and has also attended Instructor training programs on terrains including Mud & Ruts (UK), Ice & Snow (Sweden), Sand (Dubai) and Rock Crawl (USA). Moreover, since 2013 his company is responsible for conducting the Land Rover Experiences in India.
Starting from Shimla, the convoy will witness apple-laden orchards, rock-cut cliffhanger roads, colourful fluttering flags and two-humped camel caravans, before the journey culminates at the roof of the world in Ladakh desert.
The route for The Himalayan Dash 2018, covering Shimla, Sangla, Kalpa, Kaza, Jispa, Sarchu, Leh, Pangong Tso and Hundar, will take you through some of the most picturesque landscapes of the country. From the lush green forests of Mashobra and Narkanda, the convoy will pass the famed valleys of Kinnaur & Tukpaon the old Hindustan-Tibet highway. From here, the travellers will be left awe-struck by a drastic change in the terrain and surroundings as the convoy will enter the enchanting barren-lands of Spiti valley, known for its colourful festivals and mystic monasteries.
Post that, they will move to Jispa and thereafter Sarchu across the stunning Baralacha La pass and Surajtal Lake. From Sarchu the convoy will move towards Leh across the majestic Zanskar range and climb up the Gatta Loops, a series of 21 hairpin bends carved into the mountainside, towards Leh. Here, the participants of The Himalayan Dash 2018 will spend a day to soak in the rich local culture & heritage and visit some of the marvelous monasteries. Next day, they will move across Chang La Pass to Pangong Tso Lake, a beautiful saline water lake on the Line of Actual Control between India and China. The convoy will further traverse through gigantic sand dunes as it will reach Hundar in the Nubra Valley, just south of the majestic Siachen glacier. The final drive of the expedition will be from Hundar to Leh, across the mighty Khardung La Pass, which was once the highest motorable road in the world.
