My name is Punnoose Tharyan, and I call myself Roy P.Tharyan. I am the Editor of Motown India, a monthly magazine brought out from Delhi and sold pan India. Motown India magazine (URL www.motownindia.com) has just completed five full years of uninterrupted publishing. Not a single issue was skipped in the last five years. Ever since I started my journey in journalism in 1987 with the Hindustan Times, as a Sub-Editor on the News Desk and then as a Reporter in the Business Bureau of HT and then finally working in the Economic Bureaus of newspapers like the Indian Express and Pioneer, I never thought I would ever become an automotive journalist. I left mainline journalism and became a Special Correspondent with Auto India before joining Autocar India in 1999 as its Delhi Bureau Chief and then taking on the additional responsibility as Delhi Bureau Chief of Autocar Professional in the years to come. I quit Autocar India in 2009 and became an entrepreneur and started Motown Publications Pvt Ltd.
I became the Editor of Motown India magazine and the first edition of the magazine rolled out in October 2010. There has been no turning back since then. All these years I covered every aspect of automotive reporting, from F1 motorsport to vehicle launches, road test reviews, interviews of leading personalities in the automotive industry, corporate stories, news analysis, et al. There was so much to learn and so much to deliver. It was awesome in every manner. I could not have done all this without the support my team. Every member played an extremely motivating role in my professional and personal life.
Sometime in the summer of 2015, I also got to play a journalist in a short clip produced on behalf of Maruti Suzuki Ltd. It was during the launch and drive of the S-Cross that the company asked me whether I could be filmed doing my regular job. A battery of fine cameramen and directors followed me as I drove the S-Cross. They filmed me at the launch in Mumbai, they filmed me driving the vehicle they filmed me resting and chilling out...never has such an honour gone to any journalist in India doing a similar exercise. I am humbled and I thank the team at Martui Suzuki to have considered me for this short film. Cross my heart, I loved the experience!!
