Samsung has finally unveiled the much awaited Samsung Galaxy
S8 and S8+ smartphones and is keen on winning back a lot of customers with
their latest flagship device as quoted by DJ Koh, President, Mobile
Communications Business, Samsung Electronics, “The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are our
testament to regaining your trust by redefining what’s possible in safety and
marks a new milestone in Samsung’s smartphone legacy.”
With emphasis on redefining the way smartphones look, these
devices come with an infinity display the not only curves on the sides, but
extends vertically as Samsung has reduced the bezel area to minimum. The home
button as well is now embedded under the display and the phone has Corning
Gorilla Glass 5 at the front and rear for extra durability. Battery size stands
at 3,000mAh for S8 and 3,500mAh for the S8+ model. The S8 gets a 5.8-inch and
the S8+ gets a 6.2-inch QHD+ display (2960X1440 pixels). The devices are the
first to house the new 10nm octa-core processors. The S8+ has a 2.3GHz quad +
1.9GHz quad core setup while the S8 has a 2.3GHz quad + 1.7GHz quad pair of cores and also comes
with support for game titles with AMD's Vulkan API. Other then this the phones
share similar specifications including 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 64GB internal storage
and can hold a microSD card of up to 256GB. Being a flagship device, these
models will come with the latest version Android OS 7.0 and they retain the
IP68 water and dust resistance certification. The devices come with Knox, a
security system that has biometric technologies like fingerprint scanner,
retina scanner and facial recognition for an uber level of security. With a
12MP Dual pixel OIS f1.7 camera at the back of the phone, you can take better
pictures in low light conditions and zoom without much loss of detail and for
the selfie lovers there is an 8MP smart focus camera at the front.
The latest flagships from Samsung also get some intuitive
software like Bixby, a virtual assistant that can take in voice command and
allow for a more handsfree experience. The phones will also be shipped with
earphones by AKG by Harman and will have a hybrid canal fit and anti-tangle
metal fabric material.
Customers will be able to get their hands on the device from
April 29 and the S8 and S8+ will be offer in Midnight Black, Orchid Gray,
Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold colours.
