Samsung is one of the top selling
smartphone brands. With the unfortunate string of events that occurred with
their last flagship device, Note 7, Samsung has found itself in a tight spot
while the competition has taken advantage of the event to increase their share
in the market. Despite all that Samsung is to enter the top end mobile segment
with their long running and successful line of device with the Galaxy S8. All
eyeballs are focused on the device and Samsung seems to have really realised
this and is taking things with much more caution and care. This is evident by
the latest announcement from the company saying that it is going to delay the
launch of the S8 in order to take more time to perfect the device. So while we
wait for the device to officially be launched, here are 4 things that we think
the S8 needs to do in order to stay afloat amidst all the competition and win
customers back.
1) Not
explode
Ok this is easily the most important thing
that the S8 needs to achieve. Now I am in no way doubting Samsung's capability
of making phones, they have been doing it for ages. Still any kind of extreme
heating or unfortunate flaming up of their latest flagship could spell
immeasurable doom for the Korean Smartphone giant. With Samsung now making
their existing testing techniques better and adding new ones, we all hope to
have a safe and sound flagship in the face of Samsung Galaxy S8
2) Last
(close to) a day
There is no doubt that the S8 will come
with a top of the line SOC and a display that is going to be beyond the Full HD
resolution. But all of this will be taxing on the phone's battery life. Thus we
expect Samsung to install a sufficiently sized battery in the S8. Smartphones
are being used in our daily lives more than ever now and require to last
longer. I encounter countless people on the busses, metros, waiting rooms etc
using their smartphones to pass time or to write mails and much more. It will
be a shame if the capabilities of the hardware are limited by the battery. Also
a Type-C USB charging port would be much appreciated to charge the humongous
battery as quick as possible.
3) Come
with Google Assistant
One of the reasons for praise for Pixel was
Google Assistant which is Google's latest virtual assistant app. For long Siri
has been considered as the best virtual assistant for mobiles but that could
change. Having the Google Assistant will sweeten the deal for the S8 by a lot
for sure. With rumors of Google Assistant appearing on the LG G6, another one
of S8's many competitors, Samsung will really have to put their foot into
getting it for their device and not falling behind.
4) Be
competitive in its pricing
Lastly, we Indians love us some good stuff
at reasonable rates. Yes the S8 will be priced at and above the Rs 50,000 mark
but we would like to see the price within that range and not much beyond. Given
the competition that it will face in the face of iPhone 7, Google's Pixel and a
lot of other brands like One which offer top specs for much less, Samsung will
have to make their pricing competitive to get a hold of the market again. Providing
a competitive price also becomes more important with Nokia coming back in the
smartphone market and with Android based devices this time.
