Even while Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM), part of the Anglian Omega Group unveiled India’s first electric small commercial vehicle (SCV) ‘M1KA’, and announced to throw open bookings from 4th quarter of 2021, the company has gone ahead and revealed a production ready 3.5 tonne electric truck.
The 1.5 tonne M1KA electric truck has to wait. The M1KA is now out in the form of a 3.5 tonne full-fledged electric truck. And according to Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman, Omega Seiki Mobility he plans to sell it in the US market.
“We are taking M1KA to the United States. We are working with a major player in the US to take our trucks there. There is a lot of work to be done, I am up for it and the team is growing substantially, we are adding hundreds and hundreds of employees, and we have got a plan to go global. There is stuff going on in Africa, we are exporting to Asean, my trucks are testing in the GCC, so there is a whole lot of work going on in our company,” Narang stated in an exclusive interview with Motown India.
“These trucks are made for India. We are doing right hand drives for India, we are doing left hand drive for the GCC and other parts. We are going to bring it to Africa. This truck is the beginning. Abhi to trailer chal rahan hein, abhi movie to baaki hein,” he added. “We are bringing in a 1. 5 tonne, 3.5 tonne and 6.5 tonne into the market,” Narang stated, referring to the truck electric truck lineup his company is planning.
A day back, the company announced the launch of Stream, an electric three wheeler passenger vehicle. “Stream is my foray into my electric passenger three wheeler market. It is the largest electric three wheeler passenger vehicle in the country doing between 120 to 150kms on a single charge, We are coming out with a host of products in the future. I am working on a tractor, then last but the least we shall be working on UAVs, i.e. unmanned aerial vehicles or drones. And the final part is working on autonomous vehicles,” he said in his interview.
The 3.5 tonne electric truck has a length x width x height of 6040mm x 2150mm x 2270mm. It has a wheel base of 3360mm. It has a minimum turning radius of 15 metres. The electric truck has a front overhang of 1080mm and a rear overhang of 1520mm.
The vehicle sits on 215/75R17.5 tyres and has a gross vehicle weight of 5500kg. While the front axle is rated 3100kgs, the rear is 4500 kgs. The vehicle has a kerb weight of 3055kg.
Coming to performance, the vehicle has a range of 180km on a single charge, a maximum speed of 90kmph and a maximum gradeability of 30%.
The driving motor type is permanent magnet synchronous, it has a power of 130kw and a torque of 415 Nm. It comes with liquid cooling for its powertrain system.
The battery type is LIFEP04, with a rated voltage of 537.6 Volts and a total capacity of 96.77 kwh. As for its suspension, it has leaf springs at the rear. With drum brakes in both front and back, the electric truck also has ABS for safety.
The interiors are very modern and the M1KA 3.5 tonne electric vehicle comes with a strong ac and a steering wheel that can be adjusted for tilt as well as reach.
