July 2019 domestic sales of commercial vehicles slump (-) 26 per cent

Domestic sales of commercial vehicles in India continued with its free fall as domestic sales fell by (-) 25.71 per cent in July 2019 at 56866 units compared to 76545 units in the corresponding period last year, according to the latest data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

The three-wheeler segment saw a degrowth of -7.66 per cent in domestic sales in July 2019 (55719 units sold in July 2019 as compared to 60341 units sold in July 2018. Sale of passenger carriers dipped – 6.15 per cent (47141 units in July 2019 as compared to 50232 units in July 2018). Sales of 3 wheeler goods carrier fell -15.14 pc (8578 units in July 2019 as compared to 10109 units in July 2018)

April—July 2019 production and sales

According to SIAM, the Indian auto industry produced a total 299702 commercial vehicles including and 363129 units of three-wheelers in April-July 2019 as against 363128 units and 408007 units respectively in April-July 2018, registering a de-growth (-) 17.47percent for commercial vehicles and (-) 11 per cent for three- wheelers as compared to the corresponding period last year..

Domestic Sales

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a decline of (-) 13.57 percent in April-July 2019 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) declined by (-) 21.63 percent and Light Commercial Vehicles declined by (-) 8.56 percent in April-July 2019 over the same period last year.

Three Wheelers sales declined by (-) 7.43 percent in April-July 2019 over the same period last year. Within the Three Wheelers, Passenger Carrier sales registered a de-growth of (-) 8.02 percent and Goods Carrier declined by (-) 4.82 percent in April-July 2019 over April-July 2018.

Exports

Commercial Vehicles and Three Wheelers registered a de-growth of (-) 47.30 percent, and (-) 12.80 percent respectively in April-July 2019 over the same period last year.
