Electric
vehicles are slowly making inroads into Indian cities, the latest being the
launch of Garvit electric two wheelers in New Delhi. “Garvit eBikes is the
manufacturer of electric scooters and eBikeGo along with Garvit is
manufacturing its own scooters after raising first round of seed investment and
very soon will be using the scooters which will be manufactured as we are also
waiting for the approval. The brand name of the manufacturer is Garvit and they
are manufactured in Lucknow,” disclosed Dr. Irfan Khan, Founder of eBikeGo to a
questionnaire from Motown India.
The
e-scooters were launched in the Capital in the presence of Sanjay Singh,
Special Commissioner of Police, New Delhi who was the Chief Guest. eBikeGo will
soon launch its operations in the city for people to adopt electric scooters
for their transportation and to pollution.
Khan
aims to expand his company’s operations pan India. Garvit electric two wheelers
use lithium ion (Lion) batteries which are completely biodegradable and helps
in decreasing the accumulation of hazardous electronic waste. Since the cost of
running is as minimal as 20 paisa/km for an average speed of 80kmph, eBikeGo
will be offering rentals starting with a minimum amount of Rs.20/- for 30
minutes, disclosed Khan.
eBike
Rental service has been offering the Okinawa electric scooters but will now be
offering their own e-scooters to those who need it for rent. “As of now, we are using scooters which are
manufactured by Okinawa scooters and as we are manufacturing our own scooters
with Garvit, we will be using them soon,” said Khan.
Khan
said his company is planning to use 10,000 Garvit e-scooters in the first phase
to cater to major places in Delhi and then expand it to 50,000 units. “We are
also planning to set up charging stations in our hubs and make sure that there
would be hubs every 2-3 kms in the city and we would be charging a very minimum
rental. We would be starting with Okinawa scooters and as soon as we get the
approval for our scooters, we would start using Garvit. We have rented out
scooters in Amritsar. We are right now concentrating on scooters and not on cars
but we would also start the R&D soon,” stated Khan.
