Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd, part of the Mahindra Group, inaugurated its first ever Electric Technology Manufacturing Hub in Karnataka. The new facility will manufacture electric vehicle technology under Mahindra's +ME brand.
The plant was inaugurated in the presence of KJ George, Minister for Large & Medium Scale Industries, IT & BT, Science & Technology, RV Deshpande, Minister for Revenue, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Priyank M Kharge, Minister for Social Welfare Department, Government of Karnataka and Dr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd and Chairman, Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd. The facility has been set up with a total investment of Rs.100 crore and will increase the manufacturing of Mahindra Electric to 25,000 units per annum.
The company also showcased two electric vehicles – Treo and Treo Yaari. The Treo is the first electric auto in India to run on Li-ion battery. The Treo was designed and developed in the Bangalore plant and cost Rs 2.22 lakh (ex-showroom Bangalore). It is powered by a 7.37kWh battery allowing it to reach a top speed of 45kmph. The battery takes 3 hours and 50 minutes to charge. While the certified range is 170km per charge, the company says that you can get about 130km out of a single charge. The Treo Yaari on the other hand is an e-rickshaw which costs Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom Bangalore). It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to charge completely and can go for 120km but once again the company claims that user can get 85km out of a single charge. Both vehicles pack a digital instrument panel, a modular design for easy repair and driving modes.
