Swedish car maker Volvo Cars known
for making the safest cars in the world launched the fastest car they have ever
made, the new Volvo S60 Polestar, the performance brand owned by the company.
The new Volvo S60 Polestar was launched in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu before a
select number of journalists who were also given the chance to experience the
new Volvo S60 Polestar on the Kari Speedway.

PRICE OF VOLVO S60 POLESTAR
The Volvo S60 Polestar is
priced at Rs 52.5 lakh, ex showroom Delhi. Only 30 units of the Volvo S60
Polestar will be available in India for sale. The car was launched by Tom von
Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India. The first road legal Polestar
cars were launched in 2014 in limited markets around the globe. Now Polestar
has expanded to 47 markets (up from 13) and doubling volumes from 750 cars to
1500 cars and including India as one of its markets.
PERFORMANCE OF VOLVO S60 POLESTAR
The Volvo S60 Polestar is the quickest
car from the Volvo stable. The Volvo S60 Polestar can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph
in a mere 4.7 seconds and is limited to a top speed of 250 kmph. The Volvo S60
Polestar is powered by a specially enhanced version of Volvo’s 4 cylinder
Drive- E powertrain. Polestar has taken
an original S60 and added a bigger turbo, a supercharger, new conrods, new
camshafts, a larger intake and a higher capacity fuel pump to augment the
engine and matched it with a BorgWarner four-wheel drive system. The new Volvo S60
Polestar has an optimised eight-speed Geartronic automatic gearbox.
The two litre twin charged
(turb charged and upper charged) engine of the Volvo S60 Polestar produces 367
hp and a peak torque of 470Nm.
This sports version of the
Volvo S60, apart from having performance-optimised equipment, also has reduced
weight by 24 kgs over the front axle and is 20 kgs lighter in total compared to
the previous model years. Part of the
improved performance and handling, compared to the previous model years is a
result of optimised weight distribution and torque vectoring.

New features of the Volvo S60
Polestar include a new 20 inch lightweight rim, Polestar calibrated
electro-assisted power steering and a
new slotted Brembo 6 piston calliper brake disc 371mm. The new Volvo S60
Polestar will come in three colours—rebel blue, onyx black and ice white.
SAFETY FEATURES OF VOLVO S60 POLESTAR
At Volvo Cars, safety is taken
for granted. The Volvo S60, the safest sedan in its segment has just become
safer with the Volvo S60 Polestar. The recent delicensing of certain
frequencies of radar enables Volvo Cars to introduce its radar based safety
features in the country. The Volvo S60 Polestar is equipped with radar and with
inputs from camera it activates an array of pre emptive safety functions.
Features that come with the new Volvo S60 Polestar include Adaptive cruise
control, lane departure warning, collision warning with full auto-braking for
pedestrians, cyclists, other vehicles and large animals, blind-spot detection
with cross traffic alert, city safety and park pilot assist.
Other passive safety features
of the new Volvo S60 Polestar include strong safety cage, seat-belt
pre-tensioners, side impact protection and whiplash protection, etc. The new Volvo S60 Polestar has a 5-star
rating from Euro NCAP.
