One of the most
anticipated SUVs in India, the new Toyota Fortuner is confirmed to hit Indian
roads on November 7, 2016. Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced that the new Toyota
Fortuner will come packed with many improved features which will include a
new and more powerful engine. The vehicle will also boast of a redesigned exterior and elegant interiors.
The Fortuner is
well known for its off-road
capabilities and will also deliver Toyota's promise of Quality, Durability & Reliability and Increased
Safety. Toyota Kirloskar Motor registered a 6pc growth for the month of
September 2016 year on year and sold a total of 12,067 units in the domestic
market. Toyota globally is one of the largest automobile manufacturer in the
world and offers a complete range of mid-sized and premium SUV's for the Indian
consumer.
The Toyota Fortuner was launched in India back in 2009 and has won the
hearts of many, it came with a 3.0 litre diesel mill which showed immense
capability. The new Fortuner may come with the same powertrains being offered
on the Innova Crysta -- a 2.7 litre Petrol, 2.4 litre and 2.8 litre diesel
mill. The 2.8 litre diesel is the most powerful amongst the lot, putting out
171.5bhp at 3400 rpm.
The new Toyota Fortuner has bigger proportions than the previous model
and will measure 4795mm in length, 1855mm in width but has a reduced height of
1835mm and will have a wheelbase of 2745mm. the vehicle will also get a good 30
degree approach angle and a 25 degree departure angle. Like the previous model
the new Fortuner will have a seating capacity of 7 persons.
The engines will in all probability get the same 6-speed automatic
transmission which is also found on the Innova Crysta. A manual 5-speed may
also be on offer. The new SUV will come with 4X4 capability with a part time
four wheel drive and automatic hubs. The new Fortuner may also get ventilated
disc brakes on all four wheels, however judging by the configuration on the
Innova Crysta, Toyota may just replace the rear disc brakes with a drum setup
to cut cost.
Toyota's Fortuner has been one of the leading sellers in its category for
a while despite having faced stiff competition from the likes of Ford's
Endeavour. The new Fortuner has a more aggressive stance and looks sharp, it
comes with smooth flowing lines along with Toyota's new boxy design philosophy,
which is also seen on the new Innova Crysta.
In terms of features the new Toyota Fortuner will get a dual zone
automatic climate control, illuminated vanity mirrors, LED DRLs, light sensing
projector headlamps, tilt and telescopic multifunction steering wheel, power
windows, parking sensors and camera, bluetooth enabled touch screen
infotainment system, airbags and height adjustable seatbelts as well.
