Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) launched their popular i20 hatchback with a new 1.4 litre VTVT petrol engine mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission for Rs. 9,01,812 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Elite i20 and the i20 Active will also be offered with 6-airbags, speed sensing auto door lock and height adjustable front seat belts.
Rakesh Srivastava, Sr. VP – Sales & Marketing, HMIL, said “The Hyundai i20 is super performer brand in the premium compact segment. Hyundai has developed a solid reputation for quality, design, performance and premium features. As customer centric company, our goal is to enhance overall value proposition of i20 brand and make it more aspirational and desirable for wide range of different people.”
The i20 automatic will go up against the likes of Maruti's Baleno 1.2 CVT and VW's Polo GT TSI. Automatic transmissions have off late been receiving a lot of demand from customers and provide a more enjoyable and carefree ride in city traffic. The new 1.4 litre, 4-cylinder, VTVT, petrol engine has a displacement of 1,368cc and puts out 98.59bhp at 6000rpm. It also produces a healthy 132Nm of torque at 4000rpm.
This new 1.4L VTVT variant of the car however will be available only in the Magna trim and will get features like passenger and co-passenger airbag but will miss out on side and curtain airbags. The incoming automatic variant may also miss out on keyless entry along with the push button start/ stop. What remains to be seen is the price of the new i20 however we feel it would be close to the Rs. 7.8 lakh mark.
