Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) will soon launch their Elite i20 hatchback in an automatic version. The official website of the company in India, listed the automatic variant to be a 4-speed transmission which will be mated to a 1.4 litre VTVT petrol motor which is a new engine from Hyundai in India. No official announcement has been made as to the launch however a launch close to the festive season may be on the cards.
The i20 automatic will go up against the likes of Maruti's Baleno 1.2 CVT and VW's Polo GT TSI. Automatic transmissions have off late been receiving a lot of demand from customers and provide a more enjoyable and carefree ride in city traffic. The new 1.4 litre, 4-cylinder, VTVT, petrol engine has a displacement of 1,368cc and puts out 98.59bhp at 6000rpm. It also produces a healthy 132Nm of torque at 4000rpm.
This new 1.4L VTVT variant of the car however will be available only in the Magna trim and will get features like passenger and co-passenger airbag but will miss out on side and curtain airbags. The incoming automatic variant may also miss out on keyless entry along with the push button start/ stop. What remains to be seen is the price of the new i20 however we feel it would be close to the Rs. 7.8 lakh mark.
