Just a day or so after Maruti recalling
20427 units of S-Cross for brake replacement, Ford India has announced the recall of around
48,000 units of the diesel variant of EcoSport SUV. The company intends to correct
"potential concerns" with certain vehicles.
The SUVs that are being
recalled have been made between April 2013 and June 2014, and the company
intends to install a new bundle clip on the fuel and brake lines. Also affected
are 700 EcoSport vehicles, made between January 2016 and February 2016, and
fitted with a 60/40 rear folding seat.
"On certain vehicles, the
40% rear seat backrest might have been assembled with bolts that do not meet
Ford's material specification, potentially causing the bolts to break,"
the company said. The company, noted that that there have been no customer
complaints, accidents or injuries as a result of either of these concerns.
The company is asking owners of
the affected EcoSport vehicles to contact their local Ford dealer for rectify
the fault free of charge. “Ford India is issuing two voluntary safety recalls
to correct potential concerns with certain Ford EcoSport vehicles,” Ford India
has said in a statement.
With this recall, the total
number of EcoSport recalled since its launch touched 86,172. The previous
recall was made in November 2015 where 16,500 units of the EcoSport were
recalled to fix a potentially faulty part of the rear suspension unit that the
company said could increase the risk of accidents.
Auto Industry body SIAM
started voluntary vehicle recalls for safety related issues in India in July
2012 and since then around 18 lakh vehicles have been recalled by various
manufacturers in India.
