Every UV / SUV that is less
than 4400mm in length is generally termed as compact. It is in this affordable compact
Utility Vehicle / Sports Utility Vehicle segment that Hyundai is holding its leadership
position ever since it launched the Creta SUV. Call it, right engineering,
right styling, right pricing, the Hyundai Creta has been setting new sales

HYUNDAI CRETA BY MOTOWN INDIA
Among the clutch of UVs / SUVs
sold in April 2016 in the domestic market, the Hyundai Creta stands out for its
stellar performance. Hyundai Motor India sold 7900 units of the Creta in April
2016 and exported 2215 units of this smart, muscular SUV. It’s another thing that Maruti Suzuki managed its leadership position with 16044
units of combines sales of the Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza. It can be
easily guessed that the Brezza and the Ertiga may have contributed the most to
this large figure. Total exports for this market leader stood at a mere 521
units.
Others who did kind of well
were Mahindra & Mahindra, Ford Motors, Renault India and Nissan Motor
India. Mahindra & Mahindra clocked a total domestic sales of 12954 units
for tis different models that included Bolero, NuvoSport, Thar, TUV300 and the
KUV100. Exports in total accounted for a mere 281 units for April 2016. Ford India’s
EcoSport model sold 3779 units in April 2016, which was less than 3911 units
recorded in April last year. Exports of the EcoSport, however has gone up to
6179 units in April 2016, compared to 6058 units in April last year.
While Renault is doing well in
the small car segment with its Kwid, the popularity of its Renault Duster has
been waning for a logn time. Renault India sold 2128 units of the Duster in
April 2016 while exports under the Dacia brand stood at a mere 15 units.
Similarly for Nissan Motor India, the combined sales of its Evalia, Terrano and
Go+ stood at 1354 units for April 2016, a fall from 2647 units recorded in
April 2015. Exports too were insignificantly low at 12 units.
