When Renault launched the KWID back in 2015, Carlos Ghosn, Chairman & CEO, Renault said, "this is a car for conquest". The Indian market has always been price sensitive and that is what drives volumes for many manufacturers. So Datsun following suit of its parent company Renault / Nissan will be launching the Redi-Go on the same CMF-A platform as the KWID. The Redi-Go is expected to be cheaper than the KWID and will in all probability be more fuel efficient as well.
The Redi-Go will be powered by a 799cc engine which powers the KWID. The engine puts out 53.3bhp at 5678rpm and 72Nm of torque at 4386rpm. This compact hatch will be able to achieve a top speed of 135kmph and will be able to go from 0-100kmph in approximately 16 seconds. This 0.8L petrol mill will be a 12 valve, 3 cylinder unit. The Redi-Go is driven by the two front wheels and the engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
In terms of dimensions this vehicle stands at 3430mm in length, 1540mm in height and 1560mm in width. The Redi-Go has a wheelbase of 2430mm which is more than the Renault KWID while the overall length is shorter than the KWID. The Redi-Go is also expected to be 20-25kgs lighter than the KWID hence may be more fuel efficient. One can expect the Redi-Go to return more than 25kmpl to the litre. Another impressive fact about the Redi-Go is the ground clearance which stands at the 185mm mark which is more than some SUVs available in the market.
On the features front this vehicle does not come with too many frills and fancies. The Redi-Go will be available with an ac, power steering, 12V power outlet, audio system and front power windows. The Redi-Go has a spacious cabin however if you are taller than 5'8 the second row may get a little cramped. The Redi-Go is definitely an uber urban cross with a trendy design. The front features stylish headlamps with LED DRLs fitted in the bumper, a hexagonal honeycomb grill, the car also sports low set twin character lines which flow seamlessly from the front to the rear. The rear of the Datsun Redi-Go is more curvy looking with a sculpted tailgate and a smart looking tail lamps.
The Redi-Go will be available for bookings from May 1, 2016 and deliveries of this car will begin from June 1, 2016. The Redi-Go will go head to head with the likes of the Renault KWID, Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. What one can expect from Datsun is a pocket friendly price tag and a low maintenance cost on the Redi-Go.
