There is now reason for
Mahindra fans to smile. All those disappointed by the sudden Supreme Court order
of December 2015 banning diesel cars with engine capacities more than 2000cc in
Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), have now plenty of reasons to
cheer. Their favourite vehicles like the XUV500 and the Scorpio are back.
Mahindra & Mahindra has
announced the launch of its new mHawk 1.99 litre diesel engine. This engine
would power the New Generation Scorpio as well as the New Age XUV500. It would
be available for customers within the Delhi and NCR to begin with, said a press
release issued by the company. .
The new 1.99 litre MHawk engine will
power the New Generation Scorpio and will deliver 120 bhp while for the New Age
XUV500, it will deliver 140 bhp.
It may be recalled that the abrupt
Supreme Court decision had come as a shocker to several car manufacturers like
Mercedes-Benz India, Toyota, General Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra. Mahindras were severely affected by the ban as
many of their best sellers like the XUV500, the Scorpio, Thar, Bolero etc were
powered by diesel engines more than 2000cc in capacity. Only the TUV300 was
available for sale in Delhi NCR. Some of the shock was contained after the
company launched a smart hatch back on the lines of a compact SUV, the KUV100
with a 1.2 litre mFalcon petrol as well as diesel engine.

the development of which started in August 2014, is now ready for launch on
both the New Generation Scorpio and the New Age XUV500. We do hope that our
customers would enjoy driving these vehicles which deliver the performance of
our currently on offer 2.2 litre mHawk engines”.
