Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, the kings of the Indian SUV world, launched its first petrol car – the compact SUV , KUV 1oo (pronounced KUV one double “O”) for the starting price of Rs. 4,45,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and launched their diesel variant for Rs. 5,25,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The KUV 1oo is powered by the mFalcon, an all-new engine family with options of both petrol (mFalcon-G80) and diesel (mFalcon-D75). The Petrol version of the KUV 1oo is powered by a 1.2L, dual VVT, three-cylinder engine while the diesel variant will be powered by a 1.2L, turbo-charged, three-cylinder engine both deliver high, low-end torque for the perfect SUV performance and an enjoyable drive. The petrol and diesel models come in four variants: K2, K4, K6 and K8 and three optional variants K2+, K4+ and K6+ each offering more and more features. The KUV 1oo has a 25.32kmpl for the diesel variant while the petrol version returns 18.15kms to the litre.

The mFalcon-G80 produces 82bhp @ 5300rpm and a peak torque of 115Nm @ 3500-3600rpm. The G80 engine is an all-aluminium MPFI Petrol Engine which is compact and light weight and meets BS IV emission norms. It is also future emission protected till BS VI. The mFalcon-D75 is a turbocharged CRDe (Common Rail Diesel Engine) which meets BS IV emission norms. This engine is also future emission protected. The 1198cc diesel engine delivers 77bhp @ 3750rpm and a peak torque of 190Nm @ 1750-2250rpm. Both the engines are mated to a manual five-speed transmission. The diesel engine is light primarily because the cylinder heads are made of aluminium and the base out of bi-metallic. The diesel version of the car comes with a power and eco mode option as well. The car also comes with LED DRLs, steering mounted controls, Bluetooth connectivity and 6-speakers.
The “K” in KUV 1OO stands for the ‘kool’ & trendy generation of youth, while UV represents an SUV. The numeric ‘1OO’ represents the pecking order of the series which comes in below TUV 3oo and XUV 5oo. All models of the KUV 1OO come with ABS and EBD as standard. Dual airbags will be available as additional fitment throughout the spectrum if variants. The car is also available with corner braking control and the top end variants will get the micro-hybrid technology (Start/ Stop). The KUV also comes with 185/ 65 R14 tyres. The car has a long travel suspension to tackle rough roads and potholes. The KUV 1oo is available in 7 colours of Fiery Orange, Flamboyant Red, Dazzling Silver, Aquamarine, Pearl White, Designer Grey and Midnight Black. The KUV will be available in 2 seating options – 6 seater and 5 seater. The front seats in the 6 seater will be a bench seat which can be folded to become a 5 seater as well. In addition to the space offered the vehicle also offers a 243 litre boot and a flat floor for the rear seat occupants.
