Mercedes-Benz
lived up to its promise of 15 in 15 by launching the new A-Class on December 8,
2015. The new A-Class is the 15th vehicle to be launched by the company this
year and will be available in petrol and diesel variants. While the petrol is
an A 180 Sport costing Rs. 24,95,000 the diesel is an A 200 Sport costing Rs.
25,95,000 (ex-showroom Mumbai). The new A-Class carries Mercedes-Benz’s unique
design philosophy and boasts of modern luxury.
The petrol
version of the car is powered by a 1.6L, 4 cylinder engine which produces
122bhp and 200Nm of torque while the diesel is powered by a 2.2L, 4 cylinder
mill which churns out 136bhp and a massive 300Nm of torque. While the diesel
version of the car can achieve a top speed of 210kmph the petrol A 180 can reach
a 100kmph from standstill in a mere 8.6 seconds. The engine has been mated to a
7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and will offer four different
driving modes -- Comfort, Sport, Eco and Individual.
The new
A-Class features striking lines, curved surfaces and coupe-like window lines
which give the A-Class a bold new look. The car also has a high-quality
interior which have been upgraded to give it a sporty look and feel. The new
A-Class has been equipped with a Leather wrapped 3-spoke multifunction steering
wheel. On the safety front the car will feature 'Intelligent Drive' which will
fuse data from various sensors and will also have ESP, ASR (Acceleration Skid
Control), ABS, Brake Assist System, Attention Assist, Hill Start Assist, Adaptive
Brake Lights Flashing and 6 airbags.
The new
A-Class is available in Cirrus White, Jupiter Red, Cosmos Black and Polar
Silver apart from a new ‘Elbaite Green’
colour. On the occasion of the launch Roland Folger, Managing Director &
CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “We couldn’t have concluded the product
offensive of 2015 with a better product. As the most progressive model in the
compact luxury segment, the A-Class has been instrumental in making
Mercedes-Benz brand more youthful. The A-Class pioneered ‘compact luxury’ in
