Fiat has launched the Abarth Punto Evo the Avventura powered by Abarth in India, both priced at Rs. 9.95 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.
The 1.4 litre 4 cylinder, T-Jet engine powering both the cars produce 145bhp and 212Nm of torque, specially tuned for India, by Indian engineers from Fiat and Abarth. Both cars will be produced in India at the Fiat India production facility at Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. Both the engines will be mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. Though the Abarth Punto Evo gets uprated performance suspension and a lower ride height, the Avventura powered by Abarth remains stock in every mechanical way barring the T-Jet engine. Both cars also get dual front airbags.
With the 145bhp Abarth engine in the Punto, the hot hatch does 0-100kmph in 8.8 seconds. Loaded with safety kits, stiffer suspension, lower ground clearance, disc brakes all around 4 wheels and ABS, the Punto will be available in only 1 trim with Pearl White or Hip Hop Black colour options with the Abarth badging and exterior package and 16” Scorpion Alloy Wheels. This powerful hatchback in the country under Rs. 10 lakh, gives a fuel efficiency of 16.3kmpl.
Just like the Punto, the Avventura is available in only 1 single trim with Pearl White and Exotica Red colour options. Fiat feels that cars like the Avventura are not associated with the philosophy and essence of Abarth. The Avventura still keeps the Fiat badging and only gets some exterior trim differences from the stock crossover in addition to the engine upgrade. Therefore, instead of the name Abarth Avventura, the company has decided to call it the Avventura powered by Abarth. The performance crossover settles for stock suspension, interior trim, and badges. It gets the 16” Scorpion Allow Wheels, powered by Abarth badges on the sides and the 145bhp, 1.4 litre t-Jet engine from Abarth which develops 17.1kmpl of fuel economy while still doing 0-100kmph in 9.9seconds. Just like the Punto, the Avventura does get disc brakes all around with ABS.
Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India Automobiles Pvt, Ltd. said “We are delighted to roll-out the Abarth Punto which is a performance oriented hatchback. This indigenously designed hot hatch is crafted to rev-up the adrenalin of the racing enthusiast by delivering exhilarating speed and stability at the same time. …We are also widening and strengthening our product portfolio by introducing another performance oriented vehicle from FCA’s stable. Avventura powered by Abarth, will be the fastest crossover in the country… We are confident that these two new category defining models from Fiat stable would catch the fancy of the car enthusiasts and perk up sales during the festive season.”
