Rolls-Royce
has unveiled their latest creation a convertible version of the Wraith. They
call it the Dawn. The drop top version is a no compromise convertible car,
which Rolls-Royce says isn’t “Anti Social” like other convertibles in the
market.
With a
signature 2:1 wheel height to body height, a long bonnet, short front overhang,
a long rear overhang, an elegant tapering rear graphic and a high shoulder line,
the Dawn, with the Spirit of Ecstasy right on the top of the front, is
unmistakably and quintessentially a Rolls-Royce.
At the heart
of the Dawn, is a 6.6 litre twin turbo V12 which produces 563bhp and 780Nm of
torque mated to an 8 speed ZF gearbox which gives seamless shifts while
accelerating. What makes it more interesting is that the transmission is
connected to a satellite GPS that they call Satellite Aided Transmission.
The system anticipates the driver’s next move based on location and driving
style and uses this information to select the most appropriate gear. The Dawn
can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds and has a limited top speed of
250kmph.
While most
convertibles compromise on space in the rear seats and make them mostly
unuseable. Those cars get a 2+2 seating arrangement which Rolls-Royce call
“anti social”. Rolls-Royce say they
didn’t want to make the dawn a 2+2 but a proper car where 4 adults can travel
in the pinnacle of style with no compromise in comfort and luxury.
Torsten
Mueller-Oetvoes, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said “Our new
Rolls-Royce Dawn promises a striking, seductive encounter like no other
Rolls-Royce to date, and begins a new age of open-top, super-luxury motoring.
Dawn is a beautiful new motor car that offers the most uncompromised open-top
motoring experience in the world. It will be the most social of super-luxury
drophead motor cars for those who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s
most exclusive social hotspots.
Quite simply,
it is the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built.
The name
‘Dawn’ perfectly suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds – an
awakening, an opening up of one’s senses and a burst of sunshine. In its
tentative, inchoate, anticipatory state, dawn is the world coming to light from
the ethereal dark of the night. The early-day chill of dawn provides an erotic
tingle on the skin, awakening the senses and passions as the day begins.
