On June 24, 2015, Chevrolet unveiled the new 2016 Cruze globally which has been claimed by the manufacturer to be more efficient and sophisticated than the previous version of the car.
The new Cruze will feature an Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and new active safety features. The Cruze is said to be more spacious and has an athletic, aerodynamically optimized design. The car will be available for purchase early in 2016 with sales beginning in North America. It will also be available in more than 40 global markets. The new Chevy Cruze comes with a new standard 1.4L turbocharged engine with direct injection which produces 153bhp. General Motors has estimated the car to return 17kmpl on the highway with the available 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Cruze will come with a Stop/start function which helps enhance fuel efficiency in stop-and-go driving. The new turbo engine and a leaner architecture have enabled the Cruze to deliver better performance figures – 0-100kmph in 8 seconds approximately. The overall weight of the car has been reduced by approximately 113kgs.
Alan Batey, President, General Motors North America, said, “The 2016 Cruze builds on a very successful program that introduced Chevrolet to new customers the world over, We retained all the attributes that made the original Cruze a hit around the globe and built on them to make this car more sophisticated, more fun and more Chevrolet.”
