Renault has globally premiered the final production version of
the Renault KWID in India. Carlos Ghosn, Chairman & CEO, Groupe Renault
along with Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO & MD, Renault India Operations unveiled
the compact hatchback in India. The KWID is set to be a global product for
Renault.
Renault first displayed the KWID concept at the 12th Auto
Expo in New Delhi in 2014 which drew the maximum crowd on all days of the
exhibition. Back then, Renault had announced they will develop the vehicle and
put it into production. Today Renault has confirmed that the KWID will be seen
on the road by the second half of 2015 and will sit in between a price bracket
of Rs. 3-4 lakh.
The KWID is based on the highly successful CMF-A platform from
the Nissan-Renault Alliance. For obvious reasons, unlike the concept where the
driver sat in the middle, the driver will be forced to the side in which the
country legally permits, for example the right side in India. The KWID is one
of the first compact cars that will look and behave like an SUV developed with
inputs form France, Japan, Korea and India. Supplier sourcing in India has been
raised to 98pc, including 60pc from the Chennai region.
Ghosn said “With KWID, Renault continues to pursue its strategy
of accessible mobility for all to step up its international growth. Using a new
Renault-Nissan Alliance platform and following the trail blazed by the Duster,
the KWID will enable Renault to continue its expansion and address the needs of
customers who want a vehicle that is stylish, robust and easy to use”.
