Toyota how now launched the all new Camry in India. The Camry will have two engine options in India like before, the Camry Petrol which is priced at Rs. 28.80 lakh and the Camry Hybrid priced at Rs. 31.92 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.
The Camry Hybrid comes with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) powerunit. The powertrain combines power from a 2.5 litre Atkinson Cycle four cylinder petrol engine along with an electric motor producing a combined output of 202bhp. Due to the hybrid technology, the Camry Hybrid generates a claimed fuel economy of 19.16kmpl even though the electric motor only has a range of 3kms with the batteries, the kinetic energy and heat generated from coasting or regenerative breaking, which would normally be wasted, help to recharge the battery. Therefore there is no need to plug in to charge the batteries and the total CO2 emission per kilometre from the Camry Hybrid is 122.8gm. The engine is mated to an electronically controlled Continuous Variable Transmission (E-CVT).
The styling of the Camry also gets a much deserved update. For starts on just module of the headlamps, a total of 9 different bulbs doing multiple different things can be found on just a single side including the daytime running LED lights, which totals to 18 different bulbs to illuminate anything in front of the driver with daytime running. A chrome radiator grille and a chrome strip that runs along the entire width of the car at the front, 15 spoke alloy wheels, electronic OVRMs with memory function, acoustic glass (hybrid only), new LED rear Lamps and rear fog lamps.
If the government incentives from FAME also take shape soon, customers may even get up to Rs. 70,000/- benefits from the original price from the Camry Hybrid, Toyota estimates. The Prius on the other hand will not benefit from the FAME regulations as it’s brought into the country as a CBU.
“We would like to thank the customers of Camry for its success in India. We have sold over 8,000 Camry since it was launched” said Naomi Ishii Managing Director Toyota Kirloskar Motor. “The Camry Hybrid, India’s first ever locally manufactured Hybrid has also been well accepted. There is increased awareness and acceptance of hybrid in the India market. Currently Camry Hybrid constitutes 73pc of total Camry sales.
The recently notified demand incentives under FAME which stipulated upfront reduced purchase price at the time of purchase to buyers will give a boost to the demands and encourage faster adoption of these vehicles in India” Ishii added.
