As a part of
the initiative from the creators of the globally popular video game Gran
Turismo, Volkswagen has revealed their Vision concept the Volkswagen GTI
Supersport concept car for the game.
The car is
now available for Gran Turismo 6 exclusively on Sony PlayStation 3. The GTI Supersport
from VW has 503 horsepower and 665 Nm of torque by which the digital car can
accelerate from 0-100kmph in 3.6 seconds and maxes out at 297kmph. Under the
bonnet of the digital car, is a VR6 TSI engine mated to a seven speed dual
clutch (DSG) gear box and sends power to the 20 inch alloy wheels by a 4MOTION
all-wheel drive system.
Proportions
and body surfaces of the GTI Supersport have been optimised for an extremely
low centre of gravity and widespread use of carbon elements makes the new
digital supercar a real lightweight with a power-to-weight ratio of only 2.5 kg
per horsepower.
At the front
end of the aerodynamically optimised body, prominent features are vertical
light modules and honeycomb styled air intakes typical of the model. While the
broad shoulders at the rear provide the ideal ventilation for the brakes, the
prominent roof-edge spoiler and flamboyant diffuser make the Supersport glued
to the track.
Some of our
readers might be thinking if it’s a digital car, how does it make a difference?
All this horsepower and torque and air intakes, how does any of it matter?
Well, video games these days are more sophisticated than our actual cars. Gran
Turismo is a game where you develop a car for the game and the inputs that you
give to the actual car, is the same you would give to the virtual car. The game
is so sophisticated it can replicate a real car, scan it and then if you play
it, it will behave exactly as the real one did under the same conditions.
Volkswagen’s
latest digital creation can be clothed in “Reflex Silver”, “Gran Turismo Red”,
“Lapiz Blue” or “Oryx White” and is now available to Gran Turismo 6 players for
downloading.
