Ahead of the New York International Auto Show, McLaren have revealed their latest creation the 570S coupe. The new 570S is set to become the cheapest McLaren to date.
McLaren have bolted a, 561bhp and 600NM of torque producing, 3.8 litre twin turbo V8 which they call the M828TE to the middle of car with a 7-speed SSG transmission that catapults that car from 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds and 0-200kmph in 9.5 seconds and onto 328kmph. The new baby McLaren weights only 1,300 kg and has an almost perfect 50/50 front to back weight distribution thanks to which the power to weight ratio of the 570S is 427bhp per tonne. McLaren claims that the new 570S is “The Most Usable McLaren to Date” 10.84kmpl of fuel economy which is amazing for a supercar producing so much of power.
McLaren have stuck with their P1 hybrid hypercar ‘shrinkwrapped’ design formula with the 570S more than usual. The front is almost exactly the same at the P1 and the rear takes similar lines and cues like the single stripe LED tail lights. A rear flying buttresses that increase downforce and door tendons that direct additional air to cool the mid-mounted V8 engine. All that power is good, but in case you’re about to go and crash into a tree, McLaren have thought of that and given carbon ceramic brakes as standard and grippy, 225/35 R19 at the front and 285/35 R20 on the rear, Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres wrapped around forged alloy wheels.
All of this is screwed together on a brand new; all carbon fibre MonoCell II Chassis which McLaren say is designed for “more everyday use” but weighs less than 80kg. With more track fiddly performance things available, McLaren also say that the 570S is good on the road and the track with independent suspension like the 12C and other handling attributes.
The cabin of the 570S has been designed around the driver. As standard, the sports seats are leather upholstered but racing seats are optional. The dashboard and steering wheel are also all leather trimmed with a luggage compartment of 150 litres at the front, the most usable space of any McLaren to date.
