The monster
has arrived, the ultimate performance saloon is now in India, and thanks to our
governmental policies for import taxes, it’s going to cost Rs.1,35,40,000/-.
Each person
who orders an M5 to India will be presented with a 4.4 litre twin power turbo
V8 petrol engine, obviously from the BMW’s M division and 560bhp at the will of
their right foot. BMW claims that this power will help the driver reach
0-100kmph in 4.3 seconds. With the 690Nm of torque, included in the M5 box is a
7-speed M-dual clutch with paddle shift and a button that will accelerate for
you called cruise control. All the power and torque will be sent to the rear
axle which they call the Active M Differential which seems different from other
differentials that differ from it.
Just as all
other M cars from the M division of BMW, this one gets the same treatment in
styling. The three split front bumper below the kidney grille which says M5 and
the adaptive LED headlights. The tail lamps also have subtle changes so that
its “unmistakable from behind”. The door mirrors also get the pointy M division
treatment.
The interiors
of the M5 gets a button with an “M” on it and storage compartments to keep all
your limbs that will slowly fall apart due to the power, under the armrest in
the centre console. It comes with BMW ConnectedDrive which, as the name
suggests, keeps you connected as you drive along. The improved iDrive system in
the M5 comes with touch control and handwriting recognition, BMW’s satellite
navigation system on a 25.9cm screen.
The heads-up
display apparently comes with M-specific view. What does that even mean?
Because its German, it won’t tell you speed, but the pressure of force applied
to the pinions in the rear axle or the lateral load on the front tyres? Only
things specific to whatever M wants to see.
Keeping the
M5 safe wont be problem as it comes with many abbreviations like DSC, ABS, BA,
APAA. The car comes with multiple airbags for added safety.
