Lexus has launched the new RC and RC F sports coupes in Japan. Lexus has priced the RC at 5,650,000 to 6,780,000 Yen (approx. Rs. 32,05,224 to Rs. 38,46,296) and the RC F at 9,530,000 to 10,300,000 Yen (appox. Rs. 54,06,334 to Rs. 58,43,152). Lexus has the ambition to sell 80 units of the RC in a month and 30 units in a month of the RC F in Japan.
The RC 350 will be available in 3 trims, standard, F-sport and version-L and all will be powered by a 2GR-FSE 3.5L V6 mated to an 8-speed SPDS automatic gearbox which shifts in mind numbing 0.2 seconds in manual mode. Together the powertrain will produce an amount of power and torque that Lexus refuses to reveal. Lexus will also make a hybrid version called the RC 300h available in the same trims names with a THS II hybrid 2.5L four cylinder engine with a very complicated named fuel injection technology which will provide a fuel efficiency of 23.2kmpl.
But the RC F is another animal all together. The RC F will be powered by a monstrous 5 litre naturally aspirated V8 with an even more complicated named fuel injection system, mated to a quicker 8 speed sport direct shift gearbox that changes gear in 0.1 second in manual mode. Fortunately Lexus have mentioned the power and torque figures for the RC F. The V8 under the bonnet of the RC F produces 470bhp @7100rpm and 530Nm of torque @4,800-5,600rpm. The RCF is also available in a Carbon Exterior package which reduced the weight of the overall car by 10 kilograms with a carbon fiber roof and bonnet but will only go on sale from January in Japan.
The RC 350, RC 300h and the RC F will all come with rear wheel drive as standard. The RC is fitted with many more complicatedly named things and abbreviations like Brake handling enabling delicate speed control and NAVI/AI-AVS which is what Lexus call the Navigation/Artificial Intelligence-Adaptive Variable Suspension. As options, Lexus will provide Variable gear ratio steering, Electric power steering, dynamic rear steering systems in the F-Sport trim.
The RC F comes with even more nerdy things like Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) and Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management systems (VDIM). The RC F will be available with 19-inch forged aluminium wheels with even more nerdy aerodynamic systems and safety features.
