Daimler has announced the prices of the new Smart fortwo at €10,895 (Rs. 8,86,955), and the
Smart forfour at €11,555 (Rs. 9,40,598). Both cars will be powered by a 1
litre, 3 cylinder 69bhp engines with a manual transmission. Someday Indians too
would be ready for a Nano shaped car that costs as close to Rs 10 lakh on
Indian roads!
Daimler first
premiered the new generation of the Smart two weeks ago in Berlin and parallel
to the smart roadshow with 15 stops in European cities. Sales of the new smart
generation are now starting. The first smart models will be delivered to
customers on November 22 , 2014, the top engine 90 hp turbo engine will follow
in December 2014, and the twinamic dual clutch transmission will be available
from spring of 2015 in Germany
Smart will
offer LED daytime driving lights, central locking with radio remote control,
visual locking-verification signal and immobiliser, cruise control with
variable speed limiter, exterior temperature indicator with frost warning,
instrument cluster with monochrome LCD display and trip computer, and electric
windows at the front even in the entry level version the smart fortwo and smart
forfour for safety and comfort
equipment.
Mercedes-Benz
a co-brand under Daimler AG had announced recently that it won’t be looking at
making a car smaller than the A-class and would let that market be controlled
by Smart, probably because there are no more alphabets before A, which is quite
a Smart thing to do. The Smart is now available in 46 markets across the world
with the brand most recently introduced in Russia. Alongside Germany and Italy,
China is one of Smart's main markets. Since the market launch in 1998 well over
1.5 million Smart fortwos have been produced and delivered to customers. So if
the need arises for a smaller car from Mercedes in India, maybe we could see
Smart enter into the Indian market as well.
