It’s been rumored that Aston Martin is working on a successor for the ever popular DB9 which they wish to launch in 2016.The question remains, what will it be called?
In 1947, Aston Martin was acquired by a wealthy man called David Brown which gave birth to Aston Martins trademark initials “DB”. David Brown introduced the Atom concept and then introduced the DB2, DB3, DB4, James Bond’s DB5 and the DB6 under his reign until 1970 when he sold the company. Ever since then the subsequent owners of the brand decided to keep the DB name alive and after 1970 we have had the DB7, DB9 and the DBS.
Now that the new owners of British brand have gotten in bed with AMG, Aston martin will introduce their cars with updated platforms and powertrains from the AMG factory but will not carry an AMG badge. Aston have confirmed that a 4x4 which they were to make on the Mercedes Benz GL platform has been cancelled. They have announced to launch their 2015 versions of the Rapide S and the Vanquish. Now sources say that the company has been trying to acquire the names DB10 to 14, which hints at the fact that Aston will introduce an updated version of DB9 and will it be a successor to it.
What we also feel that the naturally aspirated 6.0L V12s will be phased out and the cars will use a twin turbo V8 from AMG, which is kind of sad as we will have to say good bye to the historic V12 that has powered Astons for so long and the signature sound from the exhaust will also be missed. We can only hope that Aston Martin tunes the exhaust to the sound they had all this while. But it’s an update that was highly needed for the brand in terms of fuel consumption and performance as it was lagging behind the competition. We will just have to wait and see if the venture between Aston Martin and AMG will help brighten the British marquee see a brighter day in the near future.
