Maruti , Hyundai falter; Skoda, Tata Motors, Mahindra, others gain in April sales

 TATA MOTORS: While domestic sales of IC engine passenger vehicles stood at 39265 units in April 2022, electric vehicles sales stood at 2322 units. These figures were significantly higher than the sales recorded in April 2021 for the company.

MAHINDRA & MAHINDRA: In the Utility Vehicles segment, Mahindra sold 22168 vehicles in April 2022. The Passenger Vehicles segment (which includes UVs, Cars and Vans) sold 22526 vehicles in April 2022. Exports for the month were at 2703 vehicles.

SKODA AUTO INDIA: : Right after recording 10,000 bookings for the Slavia within a month of launch, a record-breaking quarter in Q1 2022, and a record-breaking month in March 2022, Skoda Auto India hit another high by selling 5,152 units in the month of April. Compared to the 961 units sold in April 2021, this is a significant jump of 436% year on year. This is also a new record for Skoda Auto India as it is the second highest number of units sold in a month ever, after March 2022,’s sales performance.

TOYOTA KIRLOSKAR MOTOR: Toyota Kirloskar Motor wholesale figures for the month of April 2022 stood at 15,085 units thereby registering a growth of 57%. For reference, TKM had sold 9600 units in April 2021. Last month also witnessed TKM achieving a significant milestone of clocking cumulative wholesales of over two million units since inception.

HONDA CARS INDIA: Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, registered monthly domestic sales of 7,874units in Apr’22.The export numbers for HCIL stood at 2,042 units in Apr’22. The company had registered 9,072 units in domestic sales and 970 units of export in April’21. 

MG MOTOR INDIA: MG Motor India announced the sales of 2,008 units in April 2022. The production remained volatile and immensely impacted by the global supply chain constraints due to the sudden & new COVID-19 lockdowns in different parts of the world.

The demand for MG products remains robust as Hector, Astor, and Gloster continue to exhibit positive momentum in enquiries and bookings. The brand is closely monitoring the situation caused by the new COVID waves and is aligning its efforts to address it.

Launched in March, the all-new ZS EV continues to garner a strong customer response with over 1000 bookings month on month, representing growing recognition of MG's initiatives towards sustainable mobility. To further strengthen the EV ecosystem and enhance customer confidence toward EV adoption, MG Motor has partnered with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to accelerate the set-up of EV charging infrastructure across the country.
