For once I was not complaining about the smog, the smoke, the pollution, the din and crumbling infrastructure of New Delhi. The Audi A3 Cabriolet with its top down somehow has this uncanny way of waving its magic wand and casting a spell on you. Topless beauties have a certain charm, no man can ever resist, and so was the case with the Audi A3 Cabriolet that I got to drive on the roads of New Delhi. The attention you get from around is like a high that kicks into your mind like an engine turbocharger.
We took the saucy A3 Cabriolet for a spin and boy oh boy was it an experience. Just like that saucy lady on the beach, the A3 cabriolet is a blend of perfection. She isn’t really roaring for attention or being blatant about her beauty. This topless A3 is graceful and subtle in her style statement. The A3 is powered by a 1.8 litre TFSI turbocharged petrol motor which makes 177bhp and 250Nm of torque. All of these numbers convert into a top speed of 240kmph and an acceleration of 0-100kmph in a mere 7.8 seconds. This engine has a sweet purr like a wild cat and isn’t very loud and obvious. The petrol motors is mated to a 7 speed S-Tronic dual clutch automatic transmission which is quite smooth and seamless.
The A3 Cabriolet looks quite like its hard top sibling but is faster and attracts much more attention. The fabric roof can be retracted in less than 20 seconds even if you are on the move but below a speed of 50kmph. The interiors are more or less the same as the A3. The Cabin feels luxurious and plush, the MMI display is handy and easy to operate. The A3 also comes with an automatic climate conditioning, an optional Bang & Olufsen sound system, ABS, Driver, passenger and front side airbags, traction control, automatic headlamps with a follow-me-home function, cruise control, parking sensors and many more such features to make the ride safe and pleasurable.
While the top was down all things felt bright and beautiful but as soon as we pulled up the covers there was an immediate drop in our oomph factor. This car is definitely a head turner and nothing can replace the pleasure of topless motoring but how practical is this car? Well most cities in our country are really polluted and we did eat a lot of dust and pollution that day. We realised that once our adrenalins stopped being hyperactive, long after we had returned the car. The fact still remains that this car is a definite eye candy and it makes you feel good about yourself. The Audi A3 Cabriolet is available at a price of Rs. 44,75,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) and makes sense to own if you really want to feel like a rock star!
