THE ICONIC JEEP WRANGLER
The Wrangler is Jeep brand’s most technologically advanced Wrangler ever. World renowned for its craftsmanship, off-road prowess and customisable design, the Wrangler has become the metaphorical template for SUVs globally.
The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon commands the highest respect as an authentic off-roader. The legendary Rubicon’s off-roading prowess comes from its proven RockTrac Full Time 4x4 technology. It is equipped with an electronically operated clutch which engages and disengages automatically depending on the amount of traction needed in the situation. A mechanical shifter is provided to shift from 2H to 4L, 4H Auto and Part Time 4L. 4H Part Time and 4L modes use ‘Smart Lock’ to maintain constant 4WD engagement for off-road driving. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a Dana 44 heavy duty, solid axles, with TruLok in the front and rear.
The Front Sway Bar in the Rubicon can be electronically disconnected. Flip the toggle switch on the centre stack of the dashboard and the Sway Bar can be disconnected in 4L and 4H, allowing the front suspension to travel up to an additional 30%. The Wrangler is known for its superb articulation amongst SUVs across the globe and the Rubicon is the benchmark.
Part of the unique performance features that the Rubicon offers is ‘Offroad+’. It is activated by the push of a button provided next to the Sway Bar toggle on the centre stack. When engaged, Offroad+ automatically adapts to the type of terrain the Rubicon is on and makes adjustments to key systems for optimal performance. These including throttle, Selec-Speed® Control, traction control and transmission shift mode. If enabled in 4H, it tailors the performance for higher-speed driving on sand. When enabled in 4L, it adjusts for low-speed rock crawling.
The Rubicon has an outstanding crawl ratio of 77:1 with a 4:1 low range ratio, which makes it an off-roader par excellence. The Rubicon has a ground clearance of 217 mm (as per IS 9435:2004), water wading capability of 760 mm (at 8 km/h) and approach, departure and break-over angles of 36-degrees, 31-degrees and 21-degrees respectively. It has thick gauge boron steel underbody skid plates, which protect critical sections of the vehicle’s underbelly in potentially extreme off-road conditions.
While both have state of the art 4x4 hardware making them superior off-roaders in their own right, the Rubicon is the more capable off roader. The Unlimited is also an incredibly attractive package with body-coloured trapezoidal wheel flares, 18-inch aluminium alloys with granite crystal spokes and all-season tyres. Also a proven Trail Rated off-roader, the Unlimited comes with the SelecTrac Full Time 4x4 system. This proven system with its active 4WD transfer case, is fully automatic and intelligent, so customers can simply enjoy the driving experience. It sends torque to the wheels with the most grip, providing continuous optimum traction in all driving conditions. The ‘Smart Lock’ feature keeps the system engaged during off-roading or low traction road conditions.
Both, Wrangler Unlimited as well as the Rubicon come with plush leather seats, a soft touch leather-finish dashboard, UConnect infotainment, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering mounted controls, cruise control, engine stop/start, dual-zone air-conditioning, automatic headlamps, front LED fog lamps, LED tail lamps, LED DRL, full-framed removable doors, a three-piece modular hard top and a fold-flat front windshield.
The locally-assembled Jeep Wrangler is available in 5 colours – Bright White, Sting Grey, Granite Crystal, Black and Firecracker Red.
