Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz India launched an updated version of their flagship sedan, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The new S-Class from the stables of Mercedes-Benz will be India's first BS VI compliant vehicle with a BS VI compliant diesel engine. The company has launched the Mercedes-Benz S-Class S 350 d for Rs. 1.33 crore (ex-showroom India) and the S 450 for Rs. 1.37 crore (ex-showroom India). The car was launched by Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India in New Delhi.
Mercedes-Benz has incorporated technological measures on the new S 350 d which significantly reduce the cars tail pipe emissions. This motor is also the most powerful diesel engine in the history of Mercedes-Benz in India. The introduction of the BS VI compliant engine comes in years before the regulation comes into effect.
Changes made to the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class include the latest generation of radar-based driving assistance systems which are capable of reducing potential accidents and can improve cabin occupant protection. The radar based safety equipment includes Active Distance Assist, Active Steering Assist, Active Braking Assist and Blind Spot Assist.
The Mercedes-Benz S Class S 350 d is powered by an OM 656 in-line 6 diesel engine, it produces 286hp and 600Nm of torque. The S 350 d is capable of accelerating from 0-100kmph in just 6.0 seconds and comes with a top speed of 250kmph. The S 450 is powered by a V6 petrol engine that churns out 500Nm and 367hp. It propels the sedan to a top speed of 250kmph and is capable of attaining a speed of 100kmph from standstill in a mere 5.1seconds. The engines come mated to Mercedes-Benz's 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.
Mercedes introduced the S-Class in India back in the year 2000 and since then it has sold more than 6700 units. In its latest iteration the S-Class features an Ultrabeam LED with ultra range high beams, LED tail lamps with a crystal look, Panoramic sunroof with a fixed glass in the rear and a rolling one in the front, 64 colour ambient lighting, 43.5 degree reclining rear seats, 10.2 inch individual entertainment displays, 12.3 inch dual high resolution infotainment unit, wireless charging and lots more.
