At the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show Honda unveiled a new electric vehicle concept called the Urban EV Concept. The Urban EV Concept has been built on a brand new platform and will set the tone for technology and design to be showcased on future production ready Honda electric vehicles. Honda has confirmed the production ready version of the Urban EV Concept to arrive in Europe in the next two years.
Takahiro Hachigo, President and CEO, Honda Motor Co. officially introduced the concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show and stated "This is not some vision of the distant future; a production version of this car will be here in Europe in 2019".
The Honda Urban EV Concept features advanced technology and sophisticated design. The car gets a low and wide stance, looking planted and muscular. The Honda emblem on the EV is backlit in blue. The facade of the car features an interactive multilingual display for messages to be displayed between the headlamps. These could include -- greetings, advice for other drivers or charging status updates.
Inside the cabin, the driver gets an excellent view of the road thanks to slim A-pillars and a wide windscreen. To ingress or egress one can use the rear hinged coach doors. The electric charging cable of the Urban EV Concept is housed on the bonnet. The Urban EV Concept can accommodate 4 persons and has two seating benches. The front row of the Urban EV Concept has been given a natural grey fabric upholstery, while the seat backs, squabs and arm rests are embellished with wood finish accents.
The Urban EV Concept features a floating dashboard console which houses the steering wheel column, simple control buttons and a panoramic display screen. The main dashboard screen is able to present a range of vehicle information including the level of charge remaining. Honda has also added an Automated Network Assistant Concierge which learns from the driver and detects emotions behind their judgments. The learning helps it improve recommendations.
