The three pointed star brand have brought the big guns to
India. Mercedes finally launched the AMG GT R and GT Roadster in India with a
price tag of Rs. 2.23 crore and Rs. 2.19 crore (ex-showroom India). Mercedes
has equipped the AMG GT R with a lot of motorsport technology. With these two
product launches the brand now has 12 AMG models on offer in India. Both cars
were launched by Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes Benz
India.
Powering both the GT R and the GT Roadster is a 4.0L V8
bi-turbo petrol engine. However the power and torque output in both models are
different as the GT R sports updated turbochargers. The GT R makes 585hp at
6250rpm and 700Nm of torque from 1900-5500rpm while the GT Roadster makes 476hp
at 6000rpm and 630Nm of torque from 1700-5000rpm.
The Mercedes AMG GT R has spent a lot of its development
time on the extremely challenging Nurburgring racetrack. In India it has set a
new record for the fastest production car to lap the BIC (Buddh International
Circuit), setting a lap time of just 2:09.853 minutes. The GT R can accelerate
from 0-100kmph in just 3.6seconds and is able to achieve a top speed of
318kmph. The GT Roadster has been tuned to achieve a 0-100kmph time of 4
seconds flat and can gather speeds upto 302kmph.
The AMG GT R gets a new front fascia which also features
active elemtents, the rear gets a large aerofoil and a reworked tail end
featuring a double diffuser to enhance aerodynamic efficiency and optimise
grip. The AMG GT R also features active rear wheel steering, nine way
adjustable traction control system and adjustable coil over suspension with an
additional electronic control. The AMG GT R has been built with wider front and
rear wings along with an increased track for additional grip and the ability to
achieve higher cornering speeds.
The AMG GT R will also get the following equipment as
standard - Panamericana grille, AMG traction control, AMG electronic rear-axle
limited slip differential, AMG Ride Control sports suspension, AMG Performance
exhaust system with titanium elements, AMG Speed Shift DCT 7-speed sports
transmission, AMG Interior Night package, carbon fiber roof, 10 twin spoke
forged wheels and AMG performance steering wheel. The GT Roadster will get
features like Airscarf, Draught Stop, Sporty red seat belts, AMG exterior
chrome package and a lot more. Mercedes will be offering the GT R and GT
Roadster with 3 years/ Unlimited Mileage service package for Rs. 92,000 and 4
years/ Unlimited Mileage service package for Rs. 1,60,000.
