BMW launches new 5 Series in India for Rs. 49.90 lakh

 The new 5-Series was unveiled by legendary cricketer and BMW's long standing brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar. The new 5 Series is being locally produced at the German auto maker's plant in Chennai and will be made available to customers across the country from July 1, 2017. BMW will be offering the 5 Series in the Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport trims. While the diesel will be available in all three trims the petrol 530i will only be available in the Sport Line trim.

With BMW's gesture control the customers can now control 6 predefined functions via hand movements. This includes controlling the volume level, accepting or rejecting calls, acknowledging check control messages, closing an information window, changing camera angle etc. Other tech such as BMW's display key will allow customers to view service reminders, cabin temperature, mileage range and fuel level.  

The new BMW 5 Series also offers more space inside the cabin. The rear seat head room, leg room and knee room have been increased and the luggage volume has also been increased to 400 litres. The new 5 Series also gets a range of ConnectedDrive systems BMW iDrive with BMW Navigation Professional, Park Distance Control and Parking Assistant with Surround View Camera, BMW Apps, Bluetooth, USB an AUX input. The German brand has also increased the Head-Up Display by 70pc. Also on offer in the rear are two 10inch infotainment colour displays.   

Powering the new BMW 530d is a 3.0L, 6 cylinder diesel mill which puts out 265hp and 620Nm of torque. The 530d can go from standstill to 100kmph in just 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 250kmph. The 530i on the other hand is powered by a 2.0L, 4 cylinder petrol motor turning 252hp and 350Nm of torque. This petrol powered saloon gets a 0-100kmph time of just 6.2 seconds. BMW's 520d is powered by a 2.0L, 4 cylinder diesel engine which is capable of turning 190hp and 400Nm of torque, propelling this sedan from 0-100kmph in just 7.5 seconds. 

The engines have been mated to an 8-Speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission and BMW is offering multiple drive modes (Comfort, Sport, Sport+,ECO PRO and Adaptive) on the new 5 Series as well. Other features on offer are six air bags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with brake assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Side-impact Protection, Runflat tyres (RFT) with reinforced sidewalls, electronic vehicle immobiliser, crash sensor and integrated emergency spare wheel.
