German auto major Volkswagen has unveiled the 6th generation model
of the Polo hatch. The new Polo has been completely redesigned and gets more
room in the cabin along with more efficient engines. So far the Polo has sold
more than 14 million units and is one of the most successful compact models
from the German brand. VW is set to launch the Polo in European markets before
the close of this year. India, however, may have to wait a while for the new Polo.
The new Polo looks sportier and mature in its new avtar. Volkswagen
has also made it bigger than its predecessor from every dimension. The result,
more space in the cabin for occupants and a significantly larger boot. The boot
space has been increased from 280 litres to 351 litres. Dr. Herbert Diess,
Chairman, Volkswagen Brand Board of Management, said, "No other car offers
so much space for its size. This makes our Polo the number one compact car, and
it will remain number one."
The new Polo boasts of advanced driver assistance systems which were
previously only seen on higher end vehicles like the Golf and Passat. The
line-up will also comprise of a special edition Polo Beats which gets features
like a 300-watt sound systems. The base Trendline variant of the new Polo
globally will get features such as LED DRLs with coming home and leaving home
functions as standard. Other features which come in as standard are a speed
limiter, Front Assist area monitoring system with City Emergency Braking and
Pedestrian Monitoring.
Volkswagen is offering tech like an adaptive cruise control ACC
which can now be activated upto a speed of 210kmph. Other optional fitment
being offered is Blind Spot Detection lane change system with Rear Traffic
Alert, semi-automated Park Assist system for exiting parking spaces. VW has
also offered customers with an optional keyless entry and start stop system. The
infotainment setup as well has been upgraded with a new gen Active Info
Display. The new setup will get a range of 6.5-8.0 inch glass encased devices
with smart phone integration.
Volkswagen is offering the new Polo in a range of colours (14
exterior options) and multiple wheel options ranging from 14-18 inch. The
German auto major has also catered to personalisation and is offering customers
a host of accessories and kit to customise the new Polo with. The new Polo will
be made available across Europe this year post its launch. On offer are a range
of Euro 6 engine which range from 64.3hp to 147.5hp. For the very first time
the German brand will also be offering the new Polo with a newly developed 1.0
TGI - natural gas engine. This new engine gets a power output of 88.5hp.
Globally VW is offering the Polo with a range of four petrol and two diesel
engines. These engines will get start/stop systems as standard along with a
regenerative braking mode.
