BorgWarner recently announced the supply of its state-of-the-art (Gen-V) 5th generation, electro-hydraulic actuated all-wheel drive (AWD) coupling for the new Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4, The Huracan is the successor of the famous Lamborghini Gallardo. BorgWarner’s AWD coupling is an electronically controlled system. The Huracan produces 610hp @ 8,250rpm and churns out a whooping 560Nm of torque @ 6,500 rpm. The intelligent 5th generation coupling will automatically divide power between front and rear axles. It uses a new lightweight-compact design to reduce vehicle complexity and improves drivetrain integration.
President and General Manager, BorgWarner TorqTransfer systems, Dr. Stefan Demmerle said that they were proud to provide increased traction, stability and handling for Lamborghini’s new Huracan using their latest AWD technology. He further added that this system had been designed for improved reliability and had the technology to with stands the harsh vibrations and thermal environment associated with high performance vehicles.
In order to meet Lamborghini’s demand for improved traction and handling, BorgWarner has adapted the Gen-V integrated electronic control module to suit the Huracan’s particular driving characteristics. The AWD coupling system put together by BorgWarner has an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch which automatically distributes power between the front and rear axles.
The Huracan will be able to provide immediate response and high torque accuracy based on data which is provided by the on-board electronics and on the driver’s command. This is possible using the integrated electronic control module. BorgWarner’s Gen-V AWD coupling can also work independently of the differential speed between the front and rear axles. The Gen-V can also provide full locking torque at any given time and speed depending on road conditions and vehicle load distribution. The Gen-V AWD coupling has a design which simplifies its integration into the powertrain and reducing the total weight compared with the previous version which was being used. It also provides improved traction, handling and stability. An added advantage of the Gen-V is that it helps improve fuel economy by delivering power only when the driver commands it. The Gen-V AWD coupling has been optimised for nearly all driving situations.
