Honda Cars India Limited
(HCIL) will be investing Rs. 380 crore in its Tapukara plant in Alwar district,
Rajasthan to expand the annual production capacity of the plant from the
current 1,20,000 units per annum to 1,80,000 units per annum. The additional
capacity is scheduled to be ready by middle of 2016. This capacity expansion will generate a fresh
employment of about 600 people in Tapukara plant.
Post expansion of the 2nd
plant, HCIL’s overall annual production capacity will increase from the current
240,000 units to 300,000 units including the 120,000-unit capacity of the 1st
plant in Greater Noida.
HCIL has two manufacturing
facilities at Greater Noida and Tapukara in Rajasthan. The company’s product
range includes Honda Brio, Honda Amaze, Honda Mobilio, Honda City and Honda
CR-V.
The company has witnessed a 44pc
growth in its domestic sales during April 2014 – Feb 2015 with 166,366 units as
against 115,913 units in the corresponding period in FY 2013 -14. Honda has been introducing all-new models
such as Amaze, 4th Generation City and Mobilio in India and maintaining strong
sales.
HCIL’s 2nd car manufacturing
plant, located in Tapukara started assembly operations in February 2014, with annual
production capacity of 120,000 units. The plant integrates various functions
including operations for forging, casting, stamping, powertrain components
production, welding, painting, resin moulding, engine assembly, and frame
assembly as well as an engine testing facility. The plant employs high levels
of automation and latest equipment to achieve optimisation from the perspective
of high product quality, ergonomics and the improvement of production
efficiency and safety of each operation performed at the plant.
