It is not every other day you get to see an automotive company sponsoring a game that touches your heart.
Leading manufacturer of All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and high-end motorcycles
like Indian and Victory-- Polaris India Pvt. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of
Polaris Industries Inc.—has taken a step forward to support the paraplegic by
sponsoring the Indian Paralympic Table Tennis Federation 2014.
The company, through this initiative, is keen to help the
paraplegic and contribute towards social inclusion of paraplegic players.
The Indian Paralympic Table Tennis Federation 201 4, organised
by the ‘Association of Disabled People’ (ADP) was held on December 20 and 21, 2014 at
the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi.
Polaris India also showcased its four-wheeler ATVs at the
event, thereby urging and encouraging paraplegics to be a part of power sports.
Paraplegic can easily ride ATVs because four-wheel vehicles come with all the
necessary controls on the handlebars.
Pankaj Dubey, Managing Director, Polaris India Pvt. Ltd.,
said, “We are extremely proud of our association with ADP, it is a beginning
for paraplegics to power sports. Sports participation is an indispensable
method of modern rehabilitation, especially after medical rehabilitation is
completed. Today, individuals with paraplegia participate in all types of
sports for competition, enjoyment, and to improve overall fitness. We want
everyone to play and by sponsoring this event we are encouraging paraplegics to
come and join us.”
According to a rough estimate, India is home to 26.8 million
disabled people (by December 2013). The disabled youth in India have been
marginalised and their voices have gone unheard for many decades. Sports
participation is an important method of modern healing.
