Day 2 of the SAENIS Efficycle
2014 on October 11, 2014 saw several college teams participating and gearing up
for the dynamic events at UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Several teams
which were unable to complete their static tests on October 10 continued with
their static tests. The static events included: Design evaluation, Cost
evaluation, Marketing presentations and Innovation test .
The highlights of the day were
the dynamic events where the participating teams had to struggle hard to cross
the hurdles in the tracks. Most of the teams had prepared hard for the last two
days for this event. The best performances in these tracks would be awarded.
The Dynamic tests included
several different sub-tests like Gradient test, Manoeuvrability test,
Acceleration test and Utility test. The Gradient test saw cycles running over a
3 degree slope only using the electrical power and no human effort. It tested
the capability of the vehicle to climb on heights in non-race conditions.
The Manoeuvrability test
involved a track designed to check the turning ability of the vehicles. The
track this time was made tougher with the introduction of many more twists and
zig-zag turns. Also the turn radius was reduced from 6 m to 4 m this time.
The Acceleration test saw
teams covering a distance of 100m in minimum possible time. This test is the
most crucial as the funnelling before the final race will be done on the basis of
results of this test.
The Utility test involves a
track designed to check the maximum utility of the vehicle with an additional
payload of 20 Kgs. The track this time was made tougher with the introduction
of sand, gravel, cement bag and penalty cones.
Hundreds of students were seen
participating in this event. The much awaited exciting 2 hour endurance race
which carries the maximum marks will be held on October 11, 2014 at 9 a.m.
