Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has held a line-off ceremony with the second phase of production operations at its second two-wheeler production plant in Tapukara Industrial Area, Rajasthan. With the start of operations of second phase, HMSI has invested more than Rs. 1,000 crore at the 2nd plant and doubled the annual production capacity of this plant to 1.2 million units. The second assembly line inaugurated is flexible to manufacture both scooter and motorcycle models. HMSI will be manufacturing the Activa (110cc), CB Twister (110cc) and CB Shine (125cc) from this plant, in addition to existing Manesar plant. This plant has generated over 3,500 associates at second phase of full capacity. Honda’s second two-wheeler plant is located at the Tapukara Industrial Area of Rajasthan which is approximately 90km from Delhi (40km from Manesar plant). On the occasion, N.K. Rattan, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, added “The plant initially started the operations on July 11, 2011 with initial annual production capacity of 0.6 million units. Further to meet growing demand of customer, 2nd phase with 0.6 million units capacity is started today making the total capacity to 1.2 million. With this, we shall be able to service our customers of Activa and CB Shine in a more speedily manner”. Honda’s third plant at Bangalore area was earlier announced in September 29, 2011. The third plant is scheduled to become operational in the first half of 2013, with annual production capacity of 1.2 million units. This capacity expansion plan will increase HMSI’s total annual production capacity to 4 million units, including 1.6 million units at the first plant, 1.2 million units at the second plant and 1.2 million units at the third plant, preparing HMSI for further and rapid growth of the market.
