Amazon India and Gentari Green Mobility Business (Gentari) announced a strategic fleet management partnership with the goal of boosting zero-tailpipe emission deliveries in India. This partnership will support Amazon’s last-mile electric fleet programme locally, providing DSPs access to more three-wheeler EVs for Amazon deliveries.
Over the past decade, Amazon has collaborated with manufacturers, delivery service providers, charging point operators, and financing companies – big and small – to scale EV adoption in its operations across more than 400 cities in India. With more than 7,200 EVs deployed in 2023, Amazon is well on its way to achieving its goal of deploying 10,000 EVs in its India delivery fleet by 2025.
As part of the partnership, Gentari will aim to procure and deploy hundreds of electric vehicles in the next three years. These EVs will be strategically deployed across various cities in India, and Gentari will also offer comprehensive fleet management services to the DSPs, which will help ensure the seamless operation and upkeep of the EV fleet, thereby enhancing the reliability of Amazon’s delivery services.
Nikhil Thomas, CEO of Gentari Green Mobility India, said, “We are thrilled to join hands with Amazon on their journey towards more-sustainable mobility. This collaboration exemplifies Gentari’s dedication to deploying state-of-the-art EV vehicles and operations. As we work together to deploy more EVs and contribute to India’s net zero targets, I'm confident this collaboration will pave the way for a cleaner and electric future for India's transportation sector."
Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations at Amazon India, said, “Our partnership with Gentari will further strengthen Amazon’s e-mobility progress in India. We aim to empower our delivery service partners by providing them access to the right electric vehicles, end-to-end vehicle life cycle management services, as well as charging and parking facilities. We deployed more than 7,200 EVs in India at the end of 2023, and we remain well on track to achieve our goal of deploying 10,000 EVs in India by 2025.”
Amazon’s electric fleet programme is designed to support the company’s last-mile deliveries. The EVs can travel at speeds up to 50kmph and cover more than 100km on a single charge. They are also equipped with technology providing real-time data on vehicle performance and supporting operational efficiency.
The programme also empowers aspiring entrepreneurs to build their own last mile delivery business capabilities from the ground up, with support infrastructure, technology, and fleet management services. This enables entrepreneurs to create small businesses and deliver to Amazon’s customers across India.
Navjit Gill, Country Head of Gentari India, added, “The transition to cleaner energy sources and more-sustainable mobility infrastructure is a global endeavour that has impact beyond each national market. At Gentari India and beyond, we are committed to supporting businesses, consumers, and the government, by dedicating our business to supporting them in reducing their impact on the environment and progressing towards their climate goals.”
This partnership aligns with India's growing focus on e-mobility solutions. Government initiatives like the Electric Mobility Promotion scheme are creating a more conducive environment for EV adoption, supporting industry collaborations such as Amazon and Gentari’s partnership announced today.
