With vehicle theft crime rates on the rise and growing rapidly in India, Varroc Engineering and Scorpion Automotive have joined hands to prevent and make life difficult for criminals in the country and life easier for the consumer who can breathe a sigh of relief when they leave their vehicles unattended.
Varroc, one of India’s leading auto component manufacturers from India, has now officially collaborated with the UK based company Scorpion Automotive Pvt. Ltd., a very well trusted brand in vehicular securities. Both companies will come together to provide security based products and marketing solutions to the automotive industry especially for the two wheeler segment.
The MOU was signed by Ravi Damodaran, President, Technology & Strategy, Varroc Group in collaboration with Mark Downing, MD, Scorpion Automotive Pvt. Ltd. in the presence of Ravinder Sharma, vice president, Varroc Engineering Pvt. Ltd. and Kumar Iyer, British Deputy High Commissioner, Western India & Director General, India for UK Trade & Investment(UKTI). UKTI, the UK government arm, played a big role in bringing both companies together by working with Scorpion Automotive UK for three years by advising on strategy for market entry into India and assisting and identifying a suitable partner as a part of the Great Collaborations policy of the Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom which was proposed to go hand in hand with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign of “Make in India”.
The technology license agreement between the two companies allows exclusive design, manufacture and sell to two-wheeler and four-wheeler OEM’s in India. The collaboration also provides the exclusive rights to Varroc Engineering to manufacture the licensed products for the global markets that Varroc has its presence in.
Mark Downing in a presentation demonstrated some of the products that Varroc is licensed to produce on the security portfolio like Throttle Locks, Alarm/Immobiliser and Scorpion Track (a telemetric device that tracks the vehicle which can be used for security and fleet management/logistics requirements). Also another added feature for two-wheeler and possibly three-wheelers in India is for example the Heated Grips for cold climate conditions. Varroc is additionally licensed to produce a Smart Charger which helps for better and longer battery life of vehicles and monitoring health of batteries. Downing stated that all these products were redesigned for India to reduce cost by eliminating unnecessary features keeping the needs of the Indian consumers in mind as their UK products are ”High Value and Low Volume products”. For exports from India, the targets are set for South East Asia, Africa and both North and South America.
Damodaran said “The need for security systems has not been appropriately addressed in this market for a long time; and Varroc and Scorpion intend to address this gap with these pioneering products… Scorpion Automotive’s technologically advanced products would complement Varroc’s best cost manufacturing, enabling us to offer robust designs and high quality to our customers. I am confident that this partnership will bring tremendous value to all customers.”
Mark Downing stated that “Varroc is technically and operationally well equipped to manufacture the products licensed through Scorpion Auto. The company has a very strong hold in the auto market and we are pleased to be working with them as partners. The collaboration will be mutually beneficial and will contribute the overall growth of the auto sector.
Ravi Damodaran stated that all these products will be manufactured at the companies Chakan facility near Pune under the leadership of Ravinder Sharma under the Varroc Electronics brand. The company will commence production of products by the next fiscal of 2016-17 as the planning for 2015-16 has already been completed. The focus of sales will initially be primarily be on OEM manufacturers with factory fitted features but a huge part of the focus will also be given to the aftermarket sector as well.
